Argentina 3, Mexico 1
To start of the game, Mexico tried to immediately add pressure. El Tri tried to hold the ball and keep it away from Argentina, and was successful for large portions of the opening games.
Carlos Salcido hit the crossbar for Mexico, and the chance to yell goal was stifled in the 8th minute.
Andres Guardado tried to add something as well, sending his shot just wide of Romero’s goal and it looked like Mexico could score at any time with shots like those.>
Mexico continued to hold the ball, were playing well. They were generating opportunities, and the game looked level.
In the 25th minute, Argentina scored. Messi passed to Tevez who shot straight on to Perez. Perez had come out and stopped the initial shot, and Messi received the rebounded ball and took a shot that an offside Tevez headed into the goal.

The Mexican players all asked for the goal to be disallowed because of the clear offside, but Rosetti refused. Linesman Stefano Ayroldi looked up at the replays, and the look of “I got it wrong” was clear on his face. The Argentinean team clearly realized what had happened, and they went to protest the possible overturn as well. But since the realization had come from a replay, the goal stood.
Up until then Mexico looked even with Argentina but from that point on the moral of the Mexican team dropped.
A few minutes later, in the 32nd minute, Ricardo Osorio received the ball as in any normal play. However, as the player tried to better control the ball it got away from him and Gonzalo Higuain immediately pounced at the mistake and went on to score.
The teams continued to attack. Argentina had a notable opportunity in the 42nd minute by Higuain who ended up hitting the post.
As the teams started to walk in to the locker rooms, a scuffle started to break out. Mediotiempo reported that Heinze explained the small fight starting ” after the Mexican bench started to yell obscenities and Heinze replied with “Leave them, we’re winning, we’re giving them a thrashing. But it didn’t go further.”
Pablo Barrera went in and ‘Bofo’ was out for the second half. Immediately, the change was obvious with some new pace injected into the side.
Unfortunately for Mexico, Carlos Tevez added a cracking goal in the 51st minute. From the edge of the box Tevez took the ball and shot it straight into corner, making it difficult for Perez to reach it.
Mexico continued to try and round up attacks, but Argentina but them off. It wasn’t until the 69th minute that it looked like Mexico was about to score when a ball from Pablo Barrera was saved off the line by Heinze.
Mexico got a goal in the 71st minute. ‘Chicharito’ lost Demichelis and sent the ball into the back of the net to give Mexico a glimmer of hope.
Veron entered for Argentina, and the team controlled the ball better than they previously had. The time dwindled down, and Argentina went through.
Though the score showed a great disparity, the teams were closer. Maradona may say that he was never worried about Mexico, but the Aztecs were dangerous to the Argentines but unfortunately the scoreline does not reflect that.
The goal was harshly given to Argentina…there is no denying, no controversy in saying that the goal was offside. But there’s also no denying that to win games, you have to take advantage of the opportunities given just like Argentina did on Sunday. We’ll never know what may have happened had that goal been judged correctly. Perhaps Mexico would have done better, perhaps not. Perhaps Osorio may not have given away that goal.
Mexico waited four years for another shot to get to the infamous “fifth game.” It seems like we’ll have to wait another four.
The process starts again.
What we have left at this time are questions. Why this team? Why ‘Bofo’? Who’s going to be the manager? Will Aguirre continue? What players will leave the national team? And there are many more that need to be answered.
But there are things that we now have hope for. Mexico’s “Golden Generation” will be 25-26 years old for 2014; ideally reaching the age where they will be at their peak. This is a team of players for the future that teams will respect. The young players showed what they can do, and that they can go up and perform when called upon. In four years they’ll have the experience that many say Mexico needs. There’ll be many tournaments and qualifiers that will help the team in the long process that awaits en route for the next World Cup. In four years El Tri will once again make people dream, and give more of an argument for those dreams to come true.
Mexico, see you in Brazil.

The Saturdays – ‘Missing You’
The Saturdays sure don’t waste any time, do they? Following to so-so performance of their sophomore LP ‘Wordshaker’ last year, the ladies are back with ‘Missing You’ – the lead single from their forthcoming EP ‘Headlines’ (due August 16th).
Today saw the debut of the song’s video. Check it out after the jump…
While the clip is kinda ‘just there’, it serves its purpose. As for the song, it too isn’t necessarily ground-breaking, yet should garner the group another UK top 10.

Akon's Helpful SRK Tune For Haiti!
The Smack That singer is on a three-day visit to Mumbai to compose and record a song for Shah Rukh's latest movie Ra. One with composer duo Vishal-Shekar.
The movie is being directed by Anubhav Sinha. In fact, it was Sinha's idea to rope in Akon for the film, whose title sounds similar to that of Mani Ratnam's film Raavan starring Abhishek Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya.
When asked about this, Shah Rukh said both the films are extremely different. "Raavan is a modern version of a mythology while ours is a superhero film," he added.
Shah Rukh did not wanted to discuss the movie as it is in the initial stages. But he did add that, 'It is a genre that has not been tried before. Red Chillies and my team would like to try and I hope we succeed. I am doing this film for my kids and if you guys have kids, they will like it too," he said.
It was jazzed up as a biggggggg celeb night! Though, after the jubilation, it was time to sort out the serious too. Akon, the famed hip hop singer was in India on the express invitation of Shah Rukh Khan to snazz upp his swanky party and record a song number for SRK's new production: 'Ra.One'
Tunesmiths Vishal Shekhar will do their number, er, record their score with Akon and the R and B singer will show up in the music video too.
This apart, Akon plans to pull in Khan for an altruistic cause: raising funds for the Haiti earthquake victims. Weeks after the calamity, Akon joined forces with renowned musician Wyclef Jean; the duo performed at the Yele Festival in Haiti for the disaster affected.
"There is so much more that needs to be done for Haiti," asserts Akon in a media chat. "I visited the place and it was a very moving experience for me. I definitely plan to speak to Shah Rukh about raising help for the Haiti victims. The idea is to involve as many people as possible."
rime Minister David Cameron to hold first sit-down with President Barack Obama at G8
President Obama has urged world leaders to follow his lead on regulatory reform at the G20 summit, which is also taking place in Canada and will deal with debt mountains that threaten the global recovery after the worst financial crisis in 80 years.
The Prime Minister and the President are expected to discuss BP and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, amid fears that the costs of the disaster could destroy the massive company.
BP's shares have fallen to a 14-year low and $100 billion has been wiped off its market value since the start of the biggest oil spill in US history, which has now lasted for more than two months.
Mr Cameron told a Canadian broadcaster that there must be clarity over BP's costs for the spill to avoid the destruction of the company.
"It is also in all our long-term interests that there is some clarity, some finality, to all of this, so that we don't at the same time see the destruction of a company that is important for all our interests," he said.
"I believe it is in both Britain and America's interests that BP remains a strong and stable company."
The company says it has paid out $2.35 billion so far in cleanup and compensation costs for the spill. That does not include the $20 billion oil spill fund it has agreed to set up or the billions of dollars it will have to pay in fines.
The pair are also expected to discuss Afghanistan on the sidelines of the summit after the resignation of the general in charge of the war, Stanley McChrystal, and his replacement by General David Petraeus.
Mr Cameron told broadcasters when he arrived in Canada that he wants to see British troops home by 2015.
The two leaders are likely to discuss strategy ahead of this year's "surge" in troop numbers, as soldiers prepare for the annual summer increase in fighting and an expected jump in casualty numbers.
Mr Cameron has called on countries attending the G8 to stand by their aid pledges to poor nations.
Rapper Eminem honors mentor Dr. Dre at L.A. event
LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) - Rapper Eminem, whose new album is expected to top the U.S. pop chart next week, made a rare appearance at a music-industry bash on Friday to honour Dr. Dre, the hip-hop pioneer who made him a superstar.
Dr. Dre received the Founders Award for career achievement during performing rights group ASCAP's annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards ceremony at a Beverly Hills hotel.
Born Andre Young 45 years ago, Dr. Dre rose to fame in the 1980s as a member of rap group N.W.A. before going solo and launching Death Row Records. He also shepherded the careers not only of Eminem, but also 2Pac, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, and produced recordings for artists as diverse as Gwen Stefani and Mary J. Blige.
"He believed in me when not many others did," Eminem told the audience. "It would have been a lot easier for Dre to dismiss me like most people did: What's with the white guy from Detroit that raps with a funny voice? But he didn't. He stepped up to the challenge because he saw something in me."
Dr. Dre signed Eminem to his Aftermath Entertainment label in 1998, and his protege is set to score his sixth consecutive U.S. No. 1 album next week with "Recovery."
Eminem generally avoids big showbiz events, preferring the seclusion of his Detroit home. He did not even show up at the Academy Awards in 2003 to collect his Oscar for best song.
For his part, during a speech filled with pauses as he fought back tears, Dr. Dre said he was "living an incredible life," and paid tribute to his mother, who got pregnant with him when she was 15.
"She was always told by family, friends and neighbours or whatever she was going to ruin her life and mine," he said.
Other honorees included Terius "The-Dream" Nash, C. "Tricky" Stewart, and Ne-Yo as songwriters of the year. Nash and Stewart collaborated along with others on such hits as Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and Jamie Foxx's "Blame It." Ne-Yo co-wrote hits for Keri Hilson and Jennifer Hudson as well as for himself.
Eclectic funk newcomer Janelle Monae, whose work draws inspiration from James Brown and David Bowie, received the Vanguard Award for emerging artists.
"As colored people, we're not all monolithic. We're not all the same. We should always celebrate our differences," said the pompadoured 24-year-old singer. Her debut album, "The ArchAndroid," reached No. 17 on the U.S. pop chart last month.
ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, collects royalties on behalf of its member songwriters and copyright holders when their compositions are played on TV and radio, and in public places like bars and arenas.

Alicia Keys' Unborn Baby Blessed By Zulu Tribe
Pregnant singer Alicia Keys' unborn baby has been blessed in a traditional Zulu ceremony during the star's recent trip to South Africa with fiance Swizz Beatz.
The 29 year old is expecting her first child with the producer later this year, and now she has Zulu good fortune on her side.
Tribesmen gave the mom-to-be and her baby traditional African names as she joined hands with her future husband underneath a fig tree, dubbed the 'healing tree' by locals.
The tribal leaders agreed to bless mother and child as a thank you for the charity work Keys has done in the area - her 'Keep A Child Alive' charity helps fund local organization 'Bobbi Bear,' which aims to save youngsters whose parents have died of AIDS.
The charity's director Jackie Bradfield tells Britain's Daily Mail, "Alicia has been made part of the tribal family because she really reached out to the people here.
"Two female priests who practise a mix of Christianity and tribal custom chose new names for her and the unborn child as a mark of respect. The names were kept between them, but were chosen to reflect Alicia's character.
"Alicia had to do a special dance with drums banging in the background, and was embraced by abused children who she has helped. She was chosen for the ceremony as a thank you, because she has done a lot to keep children's lives afloat and for us to afford our support staff. Her partner came too - he held her hand and helped her sit down when she needed rest."
Keys made the blessing a family affair - her mother and brother were part of the 50-strong crowd who watched the moving ceremony.

Well Now It’s Getting Exciting: Luis Fabiano’s Double Handball
Do you suppose FIFA purposefully told all the referees to turn rubbish after such a brilliant but largely boring opening week? Because the referee has suddenly turned diabolical, with the clear beneficiaries the neutral fans. The games have been largely exciting since, even if infuriating to the victim(s).
Luis Fabiano netted his Brazilian brace with some patented Brazilian flair, with the aid of a handball. Or more accurately: two handballs, which would make it a Thierry Special. The quality of refereeing is just nosediving by the day. Who’s up for Diego Forlan throwing the ball into the net for a legitimate goal by the knockouts? Odds, anyone?
Update: Apparently the ref was laughing about it whilst tapping his arm? Video after the jump.
This is not good. Not good at all, especially since Drogba pulled one back…
Waka Waka Girl Shakira To Sing For Bollywood
Shakira may soon make debut in Bollywood with the music composer Salim-Sulaiman for an upcoming Bollywood film. It seems Sulaiman’s stint with Shakira during the “Waka Waka” song in the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony has finally shown its colours.
This is not the first time that Bollywood is bringing in international singers. Pop star Kyle Minogue had also done her debut in the movie Blue staring Akshay Kumar last year.
It is reported that Shakira is very keen about the project and is willing to do it. If things work out well then Shakira and Sulaiman would be recording the song in one months time. The song is said to be a Cabaret with a Latin influence.
Prakash Chadda, who directed Aap Ka Suroor staring Himesh Reshammiya, will be directing the film and will be casting the debutant Sachin Joshi, who is also the producing of the film.
Dads are usually seen as rule-breakers, risk-takers: Shah Rukh
Mumbai, June 20 (IANS) He plays a perfect lover on-screen and off screen he is the best dad. Describing a father's role, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says dads are usually seen as rule-breakers and risk-takers with their kids.
'Someone rightly said, 'Any man can be a father, but it takes time to be a dad'. And that someone was just right,' said Shah Rukh who has two children - son Aryan and daughter Suhana.
'Who is dad? He's the mess-maker, rule-breaker, risk-taker and the opposite of mom who is usually seen as the creator and nurturer. But for all his mischief, dads are doing something quite right,' the actor said in a statement on the occasion of Father's Day.
Known as Bollywood's favourite romantic hero, Shah Rukh donned the role of a modern, loving dad in movies like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'.
'Father's Day is our day, to celebrate 'being dad'. This day gives us the opportunity to show and express our love and care. It's an appropriate platform to look at our children and credit them for bringing joy and happiness. After all, a child gives birth to a father as well. But even though it's celebrated once a year, it's the ever after effect of being a father that will keep us connected.
'A father's role means different to different people so I cannot do justice by trying to define it. But in the traditional way, we hold the role of being the head of the family, protector and role models to our children. We are definitely the more unpredictable lot with our kids.
'At times we may have rocked our kids more than their moms have and rolled on the floor foolishly to play. So moms and dads are indeed different. And we know we cannot be like the mothers, but we do know that we can make all the difference by being right there.
'I understand it's not easy, but I appreciate the effort that's being put in by all fathers, as more and more fathers are becoming aware and taking their role and responsibility seriously and turning into great dads.'
Apart from movies, in the recent Pepsodent's ad 'Pappu and Pappa', Shah Rukh is seen playing a doting father to child artist Keval.
'I am happy to know that most of you have joined me in 'Pappu and Pappa' campaign and have made a move towards being the family man and taken to spending quality time with your kids.
'For this moment, I dedicate a song for our special day... Will Smith's 'Just the Two of Us' which celebrates fatherhood. And... dear dads you can do more...

Is Maradona ‘Messing’ with Messi?
The King should be delighted and take pride in his best soldier. But unfortunately this case doesn’t apply for the Argentine squad – where the greatest player in football history and the greatest player of the times come together – Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi.
On field, there are many things that unite both – the talent, the agility, instinct, and how they dribble past the defenders; one can draw lots of parallels here. In fact,we can see a carbon copy of Maradona in Messi. Strange it might seem, but there are more things other than their short stature that unites Messi and Maradona. In 2007, with disbelief in its eyes, the world watched Messi replicating Maradona’s ‘Goal of the Century’ against the Spanish club Getafe. Is it mere co-incidence or a miracle that the touches (13), duration (13 seconds), and the number of opponents (6) were identical to that of Maradona’s?

World Cup rankings: Argentina rises to No. 1
However, there is still a long, long way to go in this tournament, with almost four weeks remaining before a champion is crowned.
Even so, the first-game performance of each of the 32 teams has provided plenty of fodder for discussion and speculation, and it gives us the chance to compile our first rankings since the World Cup began.
It is no surprise that Argentina and Germany come out on top at this early juncture, while the disappointing home nation languishes near the foot of the list.
These rankings were made after the first full week of the tournament – at the end of play on Thursday night.
World Cup rankings
1. Argentina – Burst into life under Diego Maradona with Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain in full flow.
2. Germany – Looked fluid, confident and as efficient as ever in its swashbuckling opening victory over the Aussies.
3. Brazil – Wonderfully skilled, but Brazil could benefit from a more direct approach from now on.
4. Netherlands – Not at its best against Denmark but got the job done comfortably.
5. Ivory Coast – Tough and resilient, the Elephants have a real chance of surviving the Group of Death.
6. England – The Three Lions are hoping for Wayne Rooney to break through after a frustrating night against USA.
7. Switzerland – The Swiss produced a monumental shock by out-dueling the talented Spaniards.
8. Spain – Embarrassed by the Swiss but still capable of going deep in the tournament.
9. Italy – The 2006 champion showed its toughness by fighting back to snatch a draw against Paraguay.
10. Mexico – Came to life against France and sits on the verge of the last 16.
11. Portugal – Cristiano Ronaldo looks sharp but needs better service from the midfield.
12. Uruguay – Diego Forlan hit form in game two and the defense is extremely sturdy.
13. Chile – Plenty of attacking firepower and looking good to qualify from Group H.
14. Paraguay – Should be on course for a spot in Round 2 after a scrappy draw with Italy.
15. United States – Faces a huge showdown with Slovenia that could decide its fate.
16. South Korea – Brilliant start against Greece but found Argentina too strong.
17. Ghana – Fought hard to become the first African team to win at this World Cup.
18. Japan – Big upset against Cameroon showed there is some real flair in the squad.
19. Slovenia – Big and strong but technically limited, the Slovenians currently top Group C.
20. Greece – The Greeks recovered from a dreadful start with a much better display to beat Nigeria.
21. North Korea – The North Koreans put in a strong battling display while losing 2-1 to Brazil.
22. France – After a second straight pathetic display, the French will soon be heading home.
23. Slovakia – Seemed very nervous in its first game and was lacking the form it showed in qualifying.
24. Denmark – Failed to show any spark against the Netherlands and allowed an embarrassing own goal.
25. Cameroon – Biggest letdown of the African teams so far, with Samuel Eto'o unable to lift them.
26. New Zealand – Very limited but came back to show great spirit in carving out a draw that felt like a win.
27. Serbia – Couldn’t cope with Ghana and are already in danger of being dumped out of the tournament.
28. Honduras – Was totally overwhelmed by Chile and failed to mount any meaningful challenge.
29. Algeria – Not terrible defensively but the midfield is painfully disjointed.
30. Nigeria – Two straight defeats has made this campaign a huge disappointment.
31. South Africa – Host country showed little passion in slumping to a heavy defeat to Uruguay.
32. Australia – Was torn apart by the brilliant Germans and will now miss the suspended Tim Cahill.
Spectacular Goals, Anyone?
Here’s a look at some mind-boggling goals scored during the recent past, along with the techniques on how to execute them. So if the stars have forgotten, we might just be able to teach them.
Bicycle (or) Scissor Kick
The ‘bicycle’ or ‘scissor’ kick is arguably one of the most breathtaking kicks of all, visually that is. The legendary Pele was one of the pioneers of this ‘extremely difficult to imitate’ kick.
It’s not just the tough, rugged Africans or Latinos who execute the shot well, even a 6ft 7in Peter Crouch can do it.
How to scissor kick? – With your back to the goal, leap up in the air and extend your kicking foot to meet the ball airborne and fall backwards. Please don’t try this at home, try it on a lush green football field.
Back Heel Jab
The ‘back heel’ kick may not look as spectacular as the ‘bicycle’ one but the result can surprise many including the player himself, i.e. if timed well. Thierry Henry’s back heel jab during his prime at Arsenal is one goal he will cherish forever.
Want to try the back heel? – For this you need to be well-balanced and be on the look for an opportune time to have a go at the ball with your powerful heel.
Be warned, if this kick’s not executed successfully you could look foolish and may even be pulled up for a foul.
Banana (or) Bend-The-Ball kick
There are many players like Ronaldinho, Christiano Ronaldo & Steven Gerrard who excel in bending the ball. But the one who is most popular and even has a flick named of after this kick is David Beckham.
How to bend it like Beckham? – For this particular kick, apart from the direction and the skill of the player concerned, you also need gravitational forces and the wind to plays their part. Also remember to try kicking the ball at an angle off the centre.
This kick, as Beckham would say, can only mastered by continuous practice.
Chip (or) Boom Ball Kick
This kick requires exceptional power, skill, timing and precision – yes, all of these along with some good luck. Many players aimlessly kick the ball the distance but there are very few who score goals with such kicks.
We have a good boom ball kicker in Xabi Alonso, who has time and again proved that his kicks aren’t a flash in the pan but brilliantly executed ones.
What is the ‘boom ball’ kick? – This is a long distance kick (can be as long as 70-80 meters away from the goal). To try the kick, you need to keep an eye on the goal-keeper’s movements and when he’s out-of-position surprise him by lobbing the ball into the goal.
If you’re a physics student, there’s a good chance you might be able to convert this.
Dummying or Fake Kick
When you can fake everything else and still score, why not a ‘fake kick’? A fake kick or dummying in football is one where you trick your opponent into thinking that the ball is going one way but it actually goes the other way.
While one may not see such scoring shots too often, a ‘fake’ kick can be an extremely rewarding goal-scoring shot. Here, the goal-keeper and the defenders are most often sold to the dummy and hence it becomes difficult for them to recover in-time for the next shot.
Let’s go back to soccer school and see how professionals do it. Watch the video closely:
Header Shot
This is among the most common of goal-scoring techniques when the ball’s airborne. Though it looks simple on TV, headers can easily be mistimed or missed totally or it could also result in an injury if the contact’s made on the wrong side of the head.
How to head the ball right? – Focus to ensure you hit the centre on the ball with the front part of your forehead (above the eyeline and below the hairline, i.e. with a typical hairline & not a receding one
Other points to be kept in mind while heading include: keeping the eyes open, having the arms out along with a foot forward for balance.
An offensive header needs power, will need one to stand-up tall & timed to perfection for a goal. Christiano Ronaldo gets it right on most occasions – here’s a compilation:
The 6 mentioned are only some of the more glamorous goal-scoring methods. You also have the half-volley kick, sliding kick and the use of the chest to push the ball into the net. And if all these don’t work, we still have the hands to score (warning: not a legal way of scoring).
